STEAL OUR SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO CREATION PROCESS

Have you ever struggled through recreating a seemingly easy Reel or TikTok trend, only for it to not turn out the way you'd hoped? Creating, editing, and planning video content is deceptively difficult, and nobody is more aware of this than us– the professionals. So today, we're sharing a few tips we've learned along the way so that you can emulate our video content strategy and create truly successful video content.

Step 1: The Vision

Good video content starts with a solid idea. But even so-called "simple" ideas need planning.

We start by considering our content goals and communication strategy. Then, looking through that lens, we identify current trends and consider how they could be adapted to fit our messaging and brand. We never want to copy a trend outright. We like to use them as a foundation to create something that feels fresh and on-brand.

Step 2: Get Ready To Record

The setup phase can take longer than you think, but with a few adjustments, the process can become streamlined and easy.

Don't just look at what's in the foreground of your shot; look at the whole scene. Before we hit record, we take our time setting up our shots and frame, cleaning up the background, adjusting the lighting, and making sure everything looks polished — because if it didn't look good before you hit record, no amount of editing would fix it later.

Step 3: Lights, Camera, Action!

When actually recording, we're sure to capture multiple takes and angles, staying flexible with our plans.

Pro tip: record a little longer than you think you need to. The extra transition footage will give you more to work with and make editing easier.

Now, if we're being honest, sometimes our original vision doesn't work out, which means we need to make changes. It's important to be patient and adopt an easygoing attitude, both in front of and behind the camera.

Step 4: Time to Edit

Editing is where everything comes together — and where most of the time goes.

We use laser focus and precision to ensure each clip is the perfect length. We cut down the best clips, remove awkward pauses, add captions and text, play around with transitions, and make sure the final product is polished and engaging.

Additionally, we check for little things: is the cameraperson's reflection visible in a mirror? Are there any undesirable product labels or other brands in the background that we want to remove? Is the audio quality okay?

Step 5: Time to Post

Once the video is ready, it's time to post. But even this requires a strategy. We have to consider the best time to post (this varies with different target audiences and social media platforms), the tenacity of the trend (can the post be shelved for a few days, or should we post it immediately?), and, of course, the caption. We also want to be sure not to post batch-created posts or overly similar posts back to back.

We might also cross-post to other platforms, which may require additional editing and modification of the content. Reaching a wider audience means tailoring content for each platform while keeping the core message consistent.

We're passionate about creating content that looks effortless, even if the process certainly isn't. We hope this post helped you in your content creation process. But if you're getting to this point and thinking that you wish someone else would just do it for you, you're in luck! Check out our Video Content Creation services for just that kind of help.
