DO I NEED TO BE ON ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS?

You’ve probably heard that developing your social media strategy also involves making sure you are using the right social media platforms for your business and audience. But when your goal is growth, does that mean you should just be on every social media platform available?

The simple answer is no. Creating content for social media can be very time-consuming and creating content for many different platforms is even more difficult. Ultimately, quality is more important than quantity. Therefore, making sure that you are creating quality and engaging content on select platforms is better than just pumping out content everywhere you can post. If you are struggling to determine the best options for your business, we are here to help. Here are some tips to consider when choosing your ideal social media platform:

Facebook

Facebook has 1.82 billion daily active users with a large portion of users being men aged 25-34 (18.4%), men aged 18-24 (13.3%), and women aged 25-34 (12.6 %) (statista.com). This means that if your target market and audience is in this category it may be beneficial to your business to be present on this platform. Other things to consider regarding Facebook is that it is a good place to add website information, operating hours, and share articles & blog posts with your audience. This will allow your audience to interact with you, reach out and ask questions and will help new potential customers see that you’re an active business that communicates with their customers.

Instagram

As of August 2022, Instagram has about 1.44 billion monthly active users of which 31.7% are between the ages of 25-34 and 30.2% are between the ages of 18-24 (statista.com). Instagram is a very popular platform amongst younger people. If your target audience is in this age range, Instagram is a great place to connect with them. Instagram has tons of features that can be very beneficial to your business. You can connect with people through posts, stories, direct messages, share updates, live videos and so much more. It is also a good platform for communicating your brand image, voice, and personality.

Twitter

As of right now, Twitter has 396.5 million users globally of which 38.5% are between the ages of 25-34 and 20.7% aged 35-49 (statista.com). Older generations use Twitter more than gen Z, which shows in the statistics, but what are the benefits of using Twitter as a business? Twitter is very current, and everything is real-time. If you want to join Twitter, it is important to constantly be part of the conversation. Retweet things, reply, share your opinion, hold conversations and discussions. All these things can become very time-consuming so make sure to consider this before joining.

TikTok

TikTok is fairly new, however, the number of monthly users already exceeded 1 billion. People ages 10-19 are 25% of users, 20-29 are 22.4% of users, and 30-39 are 21.7% of users. TikTok has a very young demographic and currently it is one of the most popular social media platforms. This platform can also be utilized for many things like doing fun dances, educational videos, spreading awareness, sharing product videos, replying to and “stitching” other people’s videos and so much more. On TikTok, it is important for users to be real and true. That is why videos should not be overly edited or too “corporate”. Keep it quick and simple.

When selecting which platforms to be on consider: your business goals, your target audience, as well as your resources and ability to create content. Whatever platforms you decide to go with, make sure you are being strategic in your choices and taking the time to develop a content strategy tailored to each platform and your goals.
