OUR THOUGHTS ON EDITS; HOW WE SEE IT BEING USEFUL (OR NOT) MOVING FORWARD

Meta's latest standalone app, Edits, is making waves in the creator world. Designed to simplify and elevate the Reels and Stories editing experience, Edits offers a blend of professional features and seamless Instagram integration. But how does it actually stack up? Here's our take on the good, the not-so-great, and what we think the future holds for this new tool.
First Impressions
We gave Edits a spin to see how it compares to other popular editing apps like CapCut and InShot. Right away, the clean interface and Instagram-native workflow stood out, but so did some early limitations.
Pros: What We Loved
High-Quality, No-Watermark Exports — One of the biggest wins. Your content stays clean and professional without having to pay a premium.
AI-Powered Tools — From background removal to motion effects, the AI features are genuinely helpful. Most other platforms require a premium subscription for features like these.
Auto-Captions in Multiple Languages — Huge for accessibility and global reach.
Real-Time Instagram Insights — The ability to analyze content performance directly within the app provides a major plus for the platform.
Free to Use — No hidden fees or gated tools (for now!)
'Stickies' Feature — While not a traditional editing tool, this standout feature lets you add notes to your content and saved posts. A handy way to capture ideas and reminders for future creations.
Cons: Where It Fell Short
No Desktop Version — Editing on a larger screen is still off the table.
Template Limitations — Unlike CapCut, Edits doesn't offer many pre-built templates making it tough for beginners.
Instagram Login Required — Not ideal if you're looking for a neutral editing app.
Platform Lock-In — It's clearly optimized for Meta platforms, not great for multi-platform creators.
Limitations Across Platforms — While the 'Stickies' feature is helpful, the notes added in Edits don’t carry over when the content is saved to your linked Instagram account.
Our Favourite Features
The "Ideas" Tab — A simple yet smart space to store inspiration and map out content.
4K Export Support — A standout feature for creators who prioritize crisp visuals.
Green Screen & Background Effects — Makes quick, creative, and surprisingly professional-looking content.
How We See It Being Useful (Or Not)
Useful For:
Creators who are Instagram-first and want to streamline their workflow.
Brands looking to produce polished Reels without needing a third-party app.
Content planners who like keeping everything — edits, ideas, and exports in one place.
Not As Useful For:
Creators who prioritize cross-platform editing.
Advanced editors needing multi-track timelines or complex grading tools.
Teams that require desktop collaboration and large-screen control.
Final Thoughts
Edits has a lot of promise. For Instagram-native content, it hits most most the right notes, and we can see it evolving into a true competitor to CapCut with a few key upgrades. But as it stands, it's best seen as a creative assistant rather than a one-stop studio.
