Most platforms have really amazing built in analytics you can use to assess your account’s performance and determine what works best and what doesn’t with your audience. You can do this by looking at the engagement, reach, and impressions for individual posts and comparing the data. This will allow you to better understand how different types of content are performing and to create more of what your audience enjoys, is interested in, and engages with.

2. Speak specifically to your audience/customer base

If you want your audience to engage with your content, you have to make sure that the content you are creating resonates with them. For example, all our content always has to do something with marketing tips for small businesses or with small business support. We will attract an audience that is interested in how to grow their social media accounts and through that, their business. That is the type of content they will engage with. However, if we started making posts about something that is completely unrelated to marketing, our audience might stop engaging with our posts because it is not what they followed us for. Create a plan for what you can share that will connect with YOUR audience!

3. Be sure to represent your brand through your posts

You want to make sure that you have a strong brand presence and identity when trying to increase your engagement. When scrolling, you want your audience to recognize you, your brand, and your business’s voice. An audience that understands who your brand is is more likely to engage with your posts rather than with a brand that they are not familiar with.

4. Start conversations with your followers

Another easy way to engage with your audience is simply through conversation. Replying to comments, messages, liking, and commenting on their posts is a great way to show them that there is not only a real person behind the screen but also encourages them to engage with your business.

5. Use different content features to your advantage

Different platforms have a lot of different content elements that can help you connect in different ways with your audience. For example, Instagram stories have many amazing features that can be utilized to increase your engagement. Through your stories, you are able to host polls, ask questions, share quick insights, and so much more. Polls are a very simple way to also find out what your audience is interested in, as most people find it easier to tap yes/no than take the time to type out answers to your questions.
